{"id":22,"date":"2013-10-10T14:11:48","date_gmt":"2013-10-10T18:11:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/feedback.commons.hwdsb.on.ca\/?p=22"},"modified":"2013-10-10T21:55:10","modified_gmt":"2013-10-11T01:55:10","slug":"reflection-on-creating-success-criteria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/feedback.commons.hwdsb.on.ca\/?p=22","title":{"rendered":"Reflection on Creating Success Criteria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Peter, gr. 5\/6:<\/strong> \u00a0Students wrote a paragraph (diagnostic) about a topic of their choice. \u00a0Then we did a few lessons that focused on writing an organized paragraph. \u00a0After that, we discussed what the success criteria should be for writing an organized paragraph. \u00a0We then used the success criteria to write a shared paragraph (as a whole class). \u00a0Students then used the success criteria to revise their initial paragraph.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Next Step:<\/em> <\/strong>\u00a0Return revised paragraphs to students and have them analyze and highlight them for the success criteria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike, gr. 6:<\/strong> \u00a0Lesson on Terry Fox. \u00a0Students watched a movie about Terry Fox. \u00a0We brainstormed character traits, and looked at Terry Fox&#8217;s character traits. \u00a0We narrowed our list to 8 character traits that successful people have. \u00a0I then posted success criteria to help students identify character traits as related to Terry Fox and support their ideas. \u00a0Students created a word splash that represented Terry Fox&#8217;s \u00a0character traits.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Next Step:<\/em> <\/strong>\u00a0Have students analyze their finished product to see if they have met all the success criteria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christine, gr. 5\/6:<\/strong> \u00a0I modeled an extensive brainstorm and we wrote up success criteria for the brainstorm. \u00a0While modeling a paragraph (My favourite things), we stopped frequently to discuss what the success criteria should. \u00a0Then students wrote a rough draft. \u00a0I conferenced with each student about how they followed the success criteria. \u00a0Students then revised their paragraphs, using the feedback provided (based on the success criteria). \u00a0Students also reflected on how they used the success criteria. \u00a0They answered these questions: \u00a0Did you use the success criteria for this assignment?
