Students reflecting on Feedback

For TLCP 2, we are working on Reading Expectations 1.7 (Analyzing) & 1.8 (Evaluating) and combining them to write about the Author’s Point of View. Students receive feedback for each of their pieces, but I also provide whole class feedback:

The Success Criteria for the Author’s Point of View:

Ben & I have also been provided the students with samples of how to apply the feedback we are giving. For example, for our feedback about presenting ideas using the format “Point, Proof, Explanation” we provided the following samples (which we modeled for the class):

Last week, I had my students reflect with a partner about how they are using the success criteria, whole class feedback and individual feedback to help them write the next Author’s Point of View piece. Here are 2 of the discussions:

Reflection Thoughts:

After listening to the discussions, I learned about what had been useful to students and what they still did not understand.  I found that the examples for the small part of the success criteria was very helpful, but that we still need to do a few more together as a class.  I also think that having to talk to each other about how they have used the feedback made some students realize that they have not really looked at the success criteria or actively used the feedback provided (whole class or individual).  I believe I will continue having students reflect with each other on how they are applying the success criteria and feedback, but I think a list of questions or prompts would be helpful to them.
