This week we had our interviews with parents. As a whole school, we did student-led interviews. In the grade 7/8 classes, we had students choose 2 literacy pieces to talk to their parents about. They chose 1 piece they were proud of, and talk about how the piece showed their use of the success criteria, and how they used feedback to help them make that piece good. The second piece the students chose, was a piece that showed something they needed to work on, relating again to the success criteria and the feedback they had received.

The students were encouraged to talk about the Success Criteria board, and to explain the work samples and criteria that were posted on this board. Students were given time before their interviews to practice this student-led interview with several different partners in class.
After giving students the time to practice, I realized that providing students with the situation where they are forced to explain the success criteria and explain how they have used it (or not used it) and to show how they have used the feedback they have received might help them to realize how important the criteria and feedback are to their learning. I’m thinking that I might create these situations more frequently (even though parents aren’t coming in again), so that the students are forced to talk about the success criteria and put on the spot to explain what they are doing to improve their achievement.
