After creating success criteria for writing Newspaper Articles, I found that the students did not understand how to apply each criteria to their own work. So then, I decided to break down the criteria into smaller chunks through mini-lessons. The first mini-lesson was to better understand how to write headlines. I used the 3 questions (in green) to guide the mini-lesson. I showed various headline samples for us to answer the 3 guiding questions.
Students are now using the anchor chart a lot more than the Success Criteria chart when they are working on their newspaper articles. More students are now more confidently and independently creating headlines.
